GopalKrishna Mandir in the Goshala

Chaitanya Goshala

Shri Maharaj loved cows as much as He loved human beings and protection of cows was one of His important activities. He used to say "Of all animals, the cow is the only one which possess human emotions." Chaitanyashram has a goshala to achieve Gorakshane (Protecting the cows) according to the intention of Sri Maharaj. One of the objectives of Chaitanyashram is to effectively take up the mission of Gorakshana by establishing Goshala and carrying on Gopalana and Gorakshana (rearing and protecting Cows, calves and Oxen) as mark of serving Gomata according to Hindu Dharma Shastra.

One day in 1985 someone donated a cow to the ashram. Feeling that it was Sri Maharaj's wish, Gorakshane was started. Slowly, the devotees started donating cows so that we can get milk, curd and ghee for panchamritabhishek of Sri Maharaj's Paduka and to benefit the devotees by providing them milk, tea, coffee and buttermilk etc. Slowly the goshala grew and had 10-15 cows in 3-4 years. We had to arrange husk and fodder for them. For that we started making the fields on lease basis. Oxen were bought to cultivate the fields for the fodder. Since the goshala was becoming overcrowded, it had to be moved to a better place. For that, the work of constructing a spacious Goshala near the Sri Chidambareshwar temple started. Now there are two magnificent goshalas and efforts are being made to facilitate the cows in all aspects. A small temple was built in the goshala and a beautiful idol of Lord Krishna was installed in it. Cows of all breeds, mainly indian, a total of 60-70 (including calves) are being maintained in the goshala.
